For at least a week since I've been back from the bachelor party I kept hearing that a local Boston drive time radio show called Matty in the morning wanted to interview me.
I finally get a call from the Kiss 108 producer, Medha Ghandi. She says they're interested in having me come into the studio, I agree, she says she'll email the details. Great!
This is Friday afternoon and they want me to come in on Tuesday. I wait anxiously all weekend. Nothing. Maybe they changed their minds?
I text her Monday morning to see if they are still interested. Yes, excellent, see you tomorrow.
Now pay attention to the above, because I never got an email, she now knows what my name is, first AND last and I sent her information specifically about the bachelor party email.
I arrive early and am locked out. No big deal, Medha sends an intern down to let me in. Thankfully he asked if I wanted coffee because getting upat 4:15 is pretty much the worst thing you can do to start a day.
I'll be honest, I don't listen to Kiss 108 or Matty in the morning. I've heard the show before, it's funny but the music! Argh! I wouldn't be able to take it! From Justin Beiber to Ariana Grande, it's enough to make one, consider, just enough, whether it's worth driving their car off that cliff.
Here are the key players pictured above.
1. Matt Seagel- The host. I have listened to the show enough to know he is sarcastic, so when during the interview he throws not so subtle jabs at me, I don't take offense. 2. Billy Costa- Cohost. I know Matt & Billy are good friends but the times I've listened, I think Matty comes off as a complete A-hole when talking to or about Billy. I was actually more excited to meet Billy than anyone else. He's a genuinely nice guy and even asked where I was from. Me: "Onset" Billy: "Onset!?! Not much going on down there" Me: "I guess?" There is also the Co-cohost Lisa- Don't know anything about her but very nice.
Then there is Medha, the producer of The Matty in the morning show. The producer of a top rated morning drive show which I assumed would research even a tiny bit about the guy they're bringing into the studio.
Not so much...
Hey Selena Gomez, I sat in that chair too!
If you're too lazy or don't want to go into iHeart radio to listen to the interview here's how it starts. Matty: "I want to welcome, Shawn McGregor to the show." Me: Matty: "Shawn McGregor" again! Me: "It's McGovern" trying not to sound rude but wanting to make sure he knew I wasn't a McGregor. He apologized and repeats my real name a bunch of times which I appreciate. Then... Matty: "So you get this letter in the mail inviting you to a bachelor party" Me: "It was an email" My god, the look he gave to Medha. It was a look I wouldn't wish upon anyone. He then proceeds to rip up the show notes. Now I am beyond grateful that I was invited to the show. I honestly could care less if he got my name wrong in hindsight because it made the entire thing even funnier. But let's talk about this for a second. She asked for my website for background information yet still gave them my last name as McGregor. Not only that, if she had clicked on the link I sent, she would have immediately see that it was a email thread and that's without even reading anything.
In the end everything worked out fine, I have no hard feelings towards Medha. I got my website out there which is what I wanted and any publicity is good publicity so win-win.
After the interview Matty immediately asked if I wanted a picture for my website which was great. Billy was awesome wanting to know about what I do for work and more stuff about the party. Lisa, was nice but really didn't talk but at least got into the picture with me and Billy. All in all it was a great morning! |
